Proper use of fertilizer to satisfy plant needs is one of the component-input to increasing corn yield due to its content of several macro and micronutrients which are becoming scarce under natural ecosystem. Use of newly formulated controlled release fertilizer can be one of the alternatives over conventional fertilizer and can be a substitute due to its ability to provide nutrients in a controlled manner. Nousbo CRF 28-5-10 is a controlled release fertilizer with granules coated with material that can control the rate, pattern and duration of plant nutrient release. This fertilizer is applied in order to maximize nutrition efficiency while minimizing nutrient losses. More importantly, the release of nutrients is designed in a synchronize way to meet the changing crop nutrient requirement.

Nousbo CRF 28-5-10 was evaluated for its efficacy as one-time application product for complete nutrient supply for Corn from March to July, 2019 in two locations: the Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) and the Bhiskuri farmer’s village, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. The fertilizers that were used for the conventional treatment plots were Urea, DAP, and MOP at the rate of 265kg/ha, 100kg/ha, and 65kg/ha, respectively. Urea was applied in 2 split dosages (1st at transplanting and 2nd at 30 DAT). DAT and MOP were applied at transplanting at full dose. CRF 21-6-10 was applied once as basal through dibbling or per plant application at the rate of 3, 4 and 5g/plant. Agronomic performance parameters such as Plant height (cm) at 30DAT, Total weight (kg) of marketable ears per plot at harvest, Ear length (cm) at harvest, Ear diameter (cm) at harvest, Plant biomass (weight in kg) of 10-sample plants at harvest and Yield (kg/plot) were measured. Results are summarized in the following table.

The data from SHUATS and Bhiskuri locations showed that the application of CRF at the rate of 5 g/plant produced the tallest plants at 30 DAT. In SHUATS location CRF treated plots at the rate of 5g/plant produced ear with diameter 33.3% larger and 23% heavier than that of the conventional fertilizer treated plots. The plant biomass of CRF treated plots at the rate of 4g/plant and 5g/plant was significantly higher than one of conventional fertilizer treated plots which had an advantage of 12% and 32% respectively relative to conventional fertilizer treated plots. It is notable that the kg yield of CRF treated plots at the rate of 5g/plant had yield advantage of approximately 22.7% relative to plots treated with conventional fertilizer. In Bhiskuri location CRF at the rate of 5 g/plant produced the highest length and diameter of corn ear. Maximum weight of marketable corn ear and the highest corn yield were obtained from the application of CRF at the rate of 5 g/plant.

This study showed that the highest corn yield can be attained by application of Nousbo controlled release of fertilizer 28-5-10 at the rate of 4 to 5 g/plant provided that there is no erratic change in climatic condition. Based on the results of the study, it may be concluded that substitution of CRF fertilizers has positive effect on plant height, total weight(kg) of marketable ears, plant biomass and yield of Corn.
