Rice yield increased after treatment with Nousbo One-Time Paddy Fertilizer in Philippines. Research summary

(Summary of the study of Nousbo One-Time Paddy effect on rice growth and yield performances in Philippines)

Nousbo One-Time Paddy (29-4-6) is a slow release fertilizer, that requires only one time application until harvest and promotes the growth and development of roots. It contains humic acid to promote proper soil aggregation and fertility. Evaluation of Nousbo Fertilizer One-Time Paddy effectiveness on Rice Production was performed in Philippines (Brgy. Masiit, Calauan, Laguna location) from February to June 2020 in order to determine the efficacy of Nousbo fertilizer on improving transplanted rice production; to compare the effectiveness of the One-Time Paddy in promoting rice plant health and vigor at different rates and to generate data to be used for further product evaluation.

Nousbo One-Time Paddy (OTP) was applied during rice transplanting. The following treatments were used for this trial: Treatment 1 - Farmer’s Practice(FP); Treatment 2 – FP+One-Time Paddy 150kg/ha; Treatment 3 - FP+One-Time Paddy 200kg/ha and Treatment 4 - FP+One-Time Paddy 300kg/ha. The following parameters were assessed: plant height(cm) of 30 random plants at 30DAT and 50DAT, number of tillers at 50DAT of 30 random plants, percent of filled and unfilled grains per main panicle, mean weight per 1,000 grains(g) of 10 random plants and computed yield(kg/ha). Results are summarized in the following table.

*Data adjusted in order to account for harvest lost due to Typhoon Ambo

At 30DAT, the highest measured plant height average was observed on T4 plants with a mean of 32.247cm, followed closely by the rest of the treatments: T3 (31.297cm), T1 (31.003cm), and T2 (30.963cm). A very similar trend was observed at 50DAT with T4 plants having the highest observed mean plant height. The number of tillers were virtually the same as well. The number of filled grains vs unfilled grains ratio has been observed to be highest in T4 plants (85.31%:14.69%), followed closely by T3 plants (81.95%:18.05%), and then by T2 plants (73.10%:26.90%) and T1 plants (72.81%:27.19%). In terms of the mean weight per 1,000 grains, T4 plants again took the lead with a mean weight of 28.12g. The harvest yield for all treatments has been severely affected by Typhoon Ambo and heavy rains prior to harvesting. As such, the computed yield was multiplied by 3 times in order to account for the observed harvest loss, basing on an earlier (2 weeks prior to Typhoon Ambo’s arrival) harvest data using the same rice variety. The highest yield was observed on T4 plants, with a computed yield of 5,892.86kg/ha, followed by T3 plants at 5,000kg/ha, and then by T1 plants at 4,642.86kg/ha and lastly by T2 plant with a computed yield of 4107.14kg/ha.

This test was able to demonstrate the effectiveness of One-Time Paddy in rice production. The higher rate of Nousbo fertilizer (T4) has been found to increase the yield by more than 25%, while the lower rate of OTP has resulted in a slight increase in yield at around 7.69% compared to the control plants.
